Orion 8" f/4.0 Newtonian Astrograph Reflector Telescope
Orion 8" f/4.0 Newtonian Astrograph Reflector Telescope
This telescope is perfect for wide field astrophotography. It provides high quality images, and with the optional coma corrector you can achieve coma free stars at the edges. The 8in. astrograph is a portable high quality telescope at a great price.

As a summary, this affordable telescope is fun to use. Great quality / price ratio. The scope is light and its fast f/d ratio allow imaging of faint objects and narrowband imaging with shorter exposure compared to refractors that are usually at f/d 6. There is no significant vignetting - the secondary has the right size. A coma corrector is a must have accessory but with it stars are round and sharp across the edges of an APS-C sensor. A laser collimator is also a must have accessory to ease the collimation process. On the cons side, the scope does not hold well collimation - but anyway with such a fast focal ratio, one would expect to tweak collimation before each imaging session. I do each time one rough collimation with a laser collimator, and a final collimation using a quality eyepiece. When you get used to it, it takes total 5 to 10 minutes maximum - not a big deal. After that, you'll gain so much time in imaging because of the short f/ratio...

Superb high-power performance, compact lightweight design, sharp high-contrast view, and clearly defined photographs make the Orion 180mm Maksutov-Cassegrain perfect for the advanced observer or astrophotographer.

I bought this telescope 6 months ago and used it a lot, observing the moon, Jupiter, and lately Mars, I am extremelly satisfied with it. The views on the moon and planets are very sharp. I casually use x270 magnification, and images are still very sharpand full of contrast, The large f/d ratio make it an excellent scope for planetary imaging. Other bonus: the scope keeps collimation extremely well. I got it collimated "out of the box" and did not have to recollimate it since then!!! If you like planetary observing, this is a telescope of choice, with a truly terrific quality/price ratio... The one I have would surpass easily any top class 5" APO at a fraction of the price.
