This is the most awesome, beefiest mount for the money! Hands down the best mount on the market out there for the astro-imager on a budget. I use this mount for astrophotography in conjunction with the Orion 6" Imaging Newt OTA and the 80mm ED piggybacked to guide with. 5 Stars all the way.... wish i could give it more!

The Orion StarShoot is an easy-to-use, affordable autoguider for long-exposure astrophotography. Plug it into an autoguider port on your mount and let it do the work for you. It comes with the software and cables needed to work right out of the box!

Best Choice YOU Ever Made

This has been the best thing I have ever bought from Orion...granted, I have purchased a lot of awesome scopes and imaging gear from Orion, but the SSAG is essential and A MUST BUY if you are going to do astrophotography. Without it, imaging will be frustrating. If you are tossing around the idea of autoguiding.... JUST STOP and GET ONE NOW. Not only is it easy to install, its easy to setup and idiot proof to use. Pair the SSAG with the Orion ST80 (don't forget the 1.25" extension tube) and you got one little honey of a autoguiding package. Piggyback this with the Orion 6" Imaging OTA... and the Starshoot Pro on the Atlas... your images will rival Hubble... not kidding at all.

Orion 6" f/5.0 Newtonian Imaging Reflector Telescope OTA
Orion 6" f/5.0 Newtonian Imaging Reflector Telescope OTA
Orion's 6" Newtonian Imaging Reflector is perfect for use with a CCD or DSLR camera for excellent astrophotography results. The images taken are sharp and true to color. And the added length in this scope helps block glare for improved contrast.

The Last Scope You'll Ever Need

I just got my 6" Imaging Newtonian 4 days ago. This scope is so awesome. The images i was getting both visual and with the StarShoot Pro were crisp, clear, and sharp! with the CCD i was getting MORE detail with less exposure times than using my 80mm ED. I first checked Collimation right out of the box...and it was spot on. just one turn of one of the primary mirror's adjustments screws was all it needed. I do need to point out an error in the manual. It says that you need to extend the drawtube extension tube for use with an eyepiece...this is true..however, if goes on to say to retract it when you use your CCD imager. well..when using both my SS-pro and SSDSCI-II i had to keep it extended to achieve proper focus. if the extension is not extended and you try to focus... you will not get anything. STILL... this scope is EASY 5 star. even the focuser is awesome and smooth to rack. Best imaging scope all around. Orion should make a 10" version...or start putting this focuser on all their newts.

I have never given any orion product i've got less than a 5 star rating. However, this time, i have to give this OTA a 3 star. Let me start with the positives: The optics are top notch and this OTA is absolutly GREAT for guiding. when paired up with theStarShoot AutoGuider, it is a match made in heaven. The ONLY Negative about this OTA is the focuser! It is not that good at all. when i recieved my OTA, the focuser felt cheap, stiff, jerky, and rough. My suggestion to ORION: Put a better focuser on it and raise the price a bit if need be. If the scope cost a lil more but had a better focus...it would still be worth the money. Don't sacrifice quality to keep the price low.

For about 2 months now, I contemplated a new scope so I could get started in the astrophotography field of amateur astronomy. After much contemplation...and a few calls to Orion Tech Support, The ORION SVP 80mm ED was the way to go. I opted with the Go To system on the SVP mount. it is SO worth the money. When i got it, it was VERY easy to set up. even the installing the GoTo motor system was a breeze. I enjoyed assembly so much I wished to myself I could do it for a living. The instructions are SO very easy to understand. The ONLY negative i found... and was disappointed about was... that the Go To system doesn't come with a power supply... so i had to call and order one from Orion the very same day, they were understanding and sympathetic. granted it comes with the 12v "cigarette lighter" plug to power up... but this would require a battery pack which you must buy. you can buy the Dynamo Pro on the website which is perfect for the scope. In spite of that.. i still rate it a 5 star. GET ONE! also be sure to order a Polar Alignment Scope when you order your SVP 80mm ED Go To. you wont regret it!

Just received my SSDSI yesterday and i was amazed and the fabulous images... the only hassle I had was that my LAPTOP is a MAC, and my desktop is a PC, so having to drag my desktop outside in the night air wasn't fun...but once set up and being used... it was great. I REALLY REALLY Wish Orion would make it compatible with MAC computers.... but i still give it 5 stars.
