The Orion XT4.5 telescope is perfect for a beginner. It's a compact Dobsonian that shows hundreds of objects in much more detail than a 60mm refractor (a classic beginner telescope). The sturdy mount with grip knob allow for easy maneuvering.
This is the perfect beginners telescope! It was both easy to assemble (about 30 min.) and use. After initial assembly, it is pretty much a grab and view telescope. It is very portable and provides detailed views of brighter objects in the sky. It has a very solid and smooth base that is easy to maneuver. On the first night, my daughter and I were able to view Jupiter! On the second night, we were awed by breathtaking views of the moon! This scope provides great value at the entry level. I would recommend this telescope to those who have an occasional interest in astronomy or to parents of children who have shown a real interest in astronomy.
