Here's an intelligent telescope for the whole family to enjoy! The IntelliScope object locator guides you to 14,000+ celestial objects with the push of a button. The lightweight, portable design sets up in seconds for family fun under the stars.
I have had it for a few weeks now and I am quite pleased with the StarBlast 6i. I haven't been able to get to a dark site as of yet, but the views from my backyard are quite good when conditions allow. I realize a larger aperture scope would show more detail, but I was looking for something more portable and the StarBlast 6i fits the bill quit nicely. I've owned a few cheap telescopes in the past and I am amazed at how much more detail I can see with the StarBlast 6i.The 25mm and 10mm eye pieces that come with the scope are well made and offer good views. I also ordered the shorty balow some extra lenses and filters to round out my setup and am generally pleased with all the different combinations. The table top dobsonian base is smooth and tight. If sitting on a stable platform there is very little vibration. I made a portable platform using a construction tripod and a plywood top which works quite well.
I really enjoy the Intelliscope object locator. After the simple 2 star alignment I find that my chosen objects are always in the field of view. If I'm unable to get the warp factor below 0.5 after the 2 star alignment I can always get it there by aligning a 3rd object via the fcn button. If you want to just manually scan the night sky and you find something interesting the ID function is quite handy for letting you know what you found. And once the ID funtion is accessed it continues to ID objects as you rotate the scope.
When I first ordered my StarBlast 6i it was backordered for a week before it shipped. That was a little disappointing, but showed me that this is one popular dobsonian. However once shipped it got here in good time. Everything was well packaged and in good condition. It went on sale about a week after I ordered it and Orion gave me the price adjustment. The instructions were clear and assembly went well. I had to make a minor collimation adjustment which was pretty easy and has stayed dead on ever since.
Yes I would love to have a larger dobsonian, but for camping trips and other travel situations this the best portable option with decent aperture.
Favorite viewing location: wherever I can use it.
Pros: portable, intelliscope accuracy, good image detail
