Superb high-power performance, compact lightweight design, sharp high-contrast view, and clearly defined photographs make the Orion 180mm Maksutov-Cassegrain perfect for the advanced observer or astrophotographer.
When I received my 180mm I did side by side comparisons with my C8,Meade 10" sct,4"f15 antares rfr.It was truly no contest. The 180 put up almost remarkable planetary images. The view through the meade 10
Outstanding image quality, incredible range of use, and portability make the Apex 127mm Mak-Cass perfect for the intermediate viewer. Use with any mount or tripod for nightitme or daytime viewing.
I've had my apex 127 for over three years now.Since day one,I've never been disppointed with this scopes performance.Though it performs well under the stars I bought mine to use for nature photgraphy.Doing so has taken me through many miles of the toughest Florida scrub. The scope looks terrible, countless scratches and nicks deep into the finish.Three times I have dropped this scope onto concrete! Twice from my shoulder and once from my waist.Despite trashing two diagonals, and one 40mm plossl, the scope still delivers razor sharp images.I have not had to recollimate.I know without question that my Meade 125 etx would not survive a single fall, let alone three. The robust construction of the apex is as good as it gets for the money. When the time comes to replace this scope (six or seven falls?) only another apex 127 will do for me.You can view many of the photos taken with this scope on either astromart or birdforum, both under my name,Michael Downs.
