This is our 12" XX12i Truss Tube IntelliScope Dobsonian bundled with a custom designed light shroud to block stray light and improve image contrast. Also includes 3 padded cases designed to protect the optical tube sections during transport.

I was coming back to amateur astronomy after an absence of almost ten years of not owning a 'real' telescope when I saw this scope on Orion's website. Looked really interesting - and a tremendous value. Checked it out on the web and others gave it high marks. Got the chance to put my hands on one (during the day - no observing) and I knew this was the scope to get. A week later it arrives. First impressions are always important and I was impressed with the great job of packaging and the assembly instructions. (Suggestion to others - don't take all of the fastners out of the bags until needed! And before you assemble, go through and identify everything. Makes the process really easy.) Assembly took less than 2 hours. Collimation was straight forward using the Orion collimating eyepiece that I bought with the scope. (And it seems to hold collimation very well.) Mechanically and optically I think the scope is great. The views from my heavily light polluted back yard have exceeded my expectations. And if the weather cooperates I am sure I will have some really great dark sky experiences too. The cases and shroud seem well made and work great too! Nothing is perfect however. I'm a tall guy and found the straight through finder to be a literal pain in the neck, so I replaced it with a right-angle. (Important if you like to star hop like me, probably not as important if you plan on finding everything with the Intelliscope Object Locator.) After my first night of observing I ordered the holster for the Intelliscope Object locator because I didn't care for the idea of using velcro. And Orion's customer service was great in handling the mis-shipment of my shroud with my original order. Overall, highly recommended!

The Orion SkyQuest XX12i telescope is perfect for the observer looking for a portable big-aperture telescope. The tube and base easily disassemble into compact pieces for transport. Locate more than 14,000 celestial objects with the push of a button.
