The Celestron 1.25" Eyepiece and Filter Kit is a perfect starter kit for the beginning astronomer. Includes 5 Plossl telescope eyepieces, 2x Barlow lens, 6 color planetary filters, and neutral density moon filter. All these come in an aluminum case.
After checking the prices on individual lenses and eyepieces, I decided a kit would be a better deal based on what I could spend. When I bought my Skyquest XT6 it came with a 25mm Sirius Plossl. I was able to see good clear views of the sky, but wanted to try out different magnifications and be able to check out the moon and planets with the use of filters. After reading reviews on this kit I decided to purchase it. I was very pleased with the assortment of eyepieces, color filters, and the moon filter. I knew not to expect very clear views with the highest magnification, but I got a much better look at Jupiter on my first night even with the 6mm and 8mm. My favorite was to use the 13mm or the 17mm (with and without the Barlow). The moon filter made viewing much easier without the glare. I was able to look at the moon at a much fuller point that before. I also enjoyed viewing it with each colored filter. I was pleased that the carrying case came with a guide to what each filter will reveal on the moon and each planet. I was also glad to have an extra section for my additional accessories, which held my original eyepiece, red LED, collimation cap, and telescope tools. All in all I am very pleased with this purchase!

You've just bought your first telescope, but now what? The Orion Beginning Stargazer's Toolkit is the perfect addition to your purchase! This best selling telescope kit includes a planisphere, star atlas, a detailed moon map, and a red flashlight.
I recently received this kit to go with the Orion SkyQuest XT6 that I got in July. My two favorite items in this kit are the red light and the planisphere. The red light makes viewing my maps in the dark easier without compromising my vision. The planisphere makes seeing what is overhead much easier according to the day and time. It has the constellations, as well as some of the nebulas, galaxies, star clusters, etc. The moon map gives a good clear view of the moon with all the features numbered and named. Discover the Stars is a great book to start learning astronomy for someone like me who has little knowledge of the sky. It has maps for every month that show what is visible at that time. It also has numbered maps with more detailed information as well as small drawings of some of the deep sky objects as they would appear in small telescope. After checking the price of these items individually I found this kit was a GREAT value!

Are you looking for your first Dobsonian? The SkyQuest XT6 is a classic entry-level reflector at an amazing price. The XT6 is very portable, has a stable mount, is easy to operate and is affordable, making it a perfect telescope for the beginner.
Earlier this year I decided I wanted to purchase my first telescope. I knew nothing about telescopes, so I needed to do some research into what I should buy. After reading many online articles and reviews about telescopes for beginners, I kept finding that the most recommended was the Orion SkyQuest XT6. I got the telescope in early July and have had many enjoyable stargazing nights since. I found it easy to assemble right out of the box. I did find that I had to collimate it myself, as it was a little off (likely from shipping). I found it easy to collimate, as I was concerned that I would have trouble, never having done it before. After getting the telescope ready for use I found it very easy to start viewing the stars and planets. Knowing little about astronomy, I was pleased when I found Saturn on the second night of use. Since then I have found several nebulas and galaxies, including the Andromeda Galaxy and the Ring Nebula. I am also happy with the finder scope that was included and the eyepiece (although I look forward to purchasing some more powerful ones). I have been very pleased with my choice in telescopes and would recommend this one to anyone wanting to start enjoying a closer view of the night sky!
