This Orion Solar Filter fits Orion 8" Dobsonians, allowing you to safely observe or image the sun. The glass filter is better than mylar because it improves contrast (more natural yellow-orange color rather than blue) and is more durable.

I really like being able to plan what I want to look at ahead of time. The planets and their moons are always right where they are shown to be. This has an event tab where you can see the major events for the next thirty days. I watched the Ganymede eclipse behind Jupiter the other night. I would have never known about it otherwise. It also has a live map of the sky which is helpful to become familiar with constellations and navigation. Includes artificial satellites, comets, planets, moons, stars, and deep space objects from several catalogs, even space missions.

Have you wanted to view the Horsehead, California, and Cocoon nebulas? This 1.25" Orion Hydrogen-Beta Nebula Telescope Filter blocks everything but the light these faint nebulas emit, providing the contrast needed for viewing these elusive nebulas.

After a couple of weeks in the hobby and an XT8 I was able to find the Horsehead nebula easily. This seems to be a limited use filter. Anyone looking for the nebula that emits light in this spectrum really should be using this filter. The above nebula nebula does not look like much without the filter, but with it I can see much more contrast and the parameter of IC 434 is much easier to see.

Would you like more contrast and less glare while viewing the moon and bright planets? The 1.25" Orion Variable Polarizing Telescope Filter reduces both and brings out details. And you can adjust the amount of light transmission for the perfect view.

I really enjoy this filter. It is infinitely variable, so it alway is capable of the ideal tint. It will pay for itself if you want more than one lunar filter.

Orion offers a rugged, fully padded, case to fit just about every telescope we stock. It provides an easy way to transport and store your telescope. Heavy-duty and water-resistant material, and fits the SkyQuest XT8, XT8 intelliscope & XT8G.

This case has a decent amount of padding and looks like a quality bag. Nice zipper and heavy canvas. The right angle finder scope that comes with the xt8i does not fit very well. I would like to be able to store them together.

The Orion Holster is a great way to hold your IntelliScope Object Locator on your Dobsonian base for convenient access. It is made of aluminum and includes a template for drilling pilot holes and two mounting screws.

Holds the locator key pad securely while allowing access to the keys. The bracket screws to the base. I think holding the key pad with velcro is pretty cheesy.

Do you want to be able to view more than 14,000 celestial objects at the push of a button, without the difficulty of reading a starchart? The XT8i telescope pulls in 77% more light than the 6" model, and helps you find objects in just a few seconds!

This is the telescope introduced me to astronomy. I am really impressed with it after about a month of use. So far I have found several nebula and enjoy looking at planets. It is easy to take off the base if needed and is not too heavy to carry. My only regret is that I didn't go ahead and get the ten inch model. The difference in price would have been forgotten with a lifetime of use.
Favorite viewing location: My pasture.
Favorite object to observe: So far Jupiter.
Pros: portable
